RANDOX GRAND NATIONAL FESTIVAL NEWS: DE BROMHEAD AND BLACKMORE COMBINE FOR RED RUM SUCCESS WITH DANCING ON MY OWN

Thursday 13th April

Trainer Henry de Bromhead and jockey Rachael Blackmore famously combined for Randox Grand National success with Minella Times in 2021 and were back in the winner’s enclosure at Aintree today when Dancing On My Own landed the Close Brothers Red Rum Handicap Chase.

Henry de Bromhead, trainer of the winner Dancing On My Own, said: “Our plan was to try to get out and make it, but (runner-up) Douglas Talking just outjumped us in fairness. Our fellow was brilliant here in second last year and Rachael was super on him.

“She saved a bit and it was great to see him get up near the line. I’m delighted for the Mulryans, who are great supporters of ours. They’ve been very patient as he lost his form through the winter for a bit. It was great to see him back on nicer ground, and he seems to love it around here.”

The winning jockey Rachael Blackmore said: “My lad jumped well and we went a really good gallop. To be fair to the horse in-front (Douglas Talking) he kept going really well, but my lad just kept on better.

“When we landed up the second last, I thought we had a chance. My lad stays really well and I could see the horse in front (Douglas Talking) was tiring a little bit. It’s hard to be on your own there as it’s quite an open straight, so my lad jumped the last really well and he was tough the whole way to the line.

“This place seems to bring him alive, he ran a cracker in the same race last year, so I think he enjoys that ground.”
