OUR COMMUNITY AT HEART

Cheltenham FESTIVAL 2023 COMMUNITY INFO

At Cheltenham Racecourse we truly value our position in the community. After all, we’ve been here since 1831, so we well and truly settled in!

We realise that our events may be a world-wide attraction, but our venue is very much part of a local neighbourhood.

We also know that, no matter what we do, when we have huge numbers of people descend on the racecourse to enjoy a day out, it impacts on those that live around us, in both positive and negative ways.

It is important to us that our neighbours know that we take the role we play in the community very seriously and always give consideration to the potential impact our events might have.

We are very proud to be part of Cheltenham and of course Prestbury and want our locals to be proud to have a wonderful racecourse on their doorstep.

The race days at Cheltenham collectively bring about £150 million to the businesses in town, but we are striving to be more than just about money. We want to continue to contribute in other meaningful ways, that enhances the lives of those living around the racecourse.

We know we won’t get everything right, and know that there are times when there will be an inconvenience, but we ask for your patience and understanding.

Please remember if you have suggestions or ideas on how we can improve what we do, or can make a positive difference……then please do not think twice about getting in touch and letting us know. We will always be happy to listen and improve what we do.

We are pleased to introduce a new face at Cheltenham Racecourse. Andre Klein joins the team in this newly created role that will work to ensure that Community and Charity are at the heart of all the decisions we make. Please email Andre or our Customer Service team directly and we will make sure your comments are presented to the appropriate member of our team.

Cheltenham Racecourse In The Community

In 202O/21 we supplied over 450 different local fundraising groups with race day ticketing valued at around £50,000 for use in auctions or raffles. If you are a local Cheltenham Charity or fundraising for a neighbourhood cause please get in touch, we may be able to help! Last year we assisted school, playgroups, hospices, care centres, community projects, sports clubs and lots more! A number of our race days are run in aid of charities; including Tiggy’s Trust, the Midland’s Air Ambulance, Riding For the Disabled, Countryside Alliance and the Cheltenham Mayor’s annual chosen charities.

The Festival’s official charity partner will once again be the locally based charity, WellChild; Last year the Festival raised over £200,000 for the charity. Over 100,000 children and young people are living with a serious illness or exceptional health needs across the UK. Many spend months, even years in the hospital because there is no support enabling them to leave. WellChild’s vision is for every child and young person living with serious health needs to have the best chance to thrive - properly supported at home with their families. WellChild’s Head Office is in Cheltenham.

Every day we welcome hundreds of dog walkers to the racecourse who enjoy walking the racecourse grounds and footpaths. We have made it an objective of ours to work with the County Council to embark on a perimeter footpath enhancement programme over the coming year. Watch this space.

Cotswold Riding for the Disabled, based at the racecourse is more than a riding school. They have created a community of people who come together to ride ponies or to help others to ride ponies. They are united by a strong sense that contact with ponies can offer excellent therapy to young and old who live with a disability. Cheltenham Racecourse maintains a close relationship with the RDA who raise a significant amount of funds through the Festival and horse sales, held at the racecourse.

One of our favourite charities to support is Box4Kids, which brings ill or recovering children and their families to the racecourse, to enjoy a day of hospitality in one of our corporate suites. Our staff also occasions at other sporting events around the country on behalf of this great charity.

The NCLB Community Agreement launched in September 2020, is bringing together local schools, statutory services, charities and private sector organisations to implement a collective ethos, a way of working day-to-day, that is rooted in kindness and understanding. No Child Left Behind is a project in Cheltenham that specifically aims to help all young people to thrive. The racecourse has pledged it support to the various campaigns be run through NCLB and signed the community agreement in November 2020.
