A DAY FOR FRIENDS & FAMILY

Day two of the Festival is Ladbrokes Desert Orchid Chase Day. Named after the charismatic grey who made Kempton Park his own, the day is packed full of quality racing including the Mare’s Handicap Hurdle Race, the Wayward Lad Novices’ Steeple Chase and, of course, The Desert Orchid Chase.

The 27th December is perfect for those wanting to come Christmas racing without the worry of the big Boxing Day crowds.

It's a good day to bring the little ones racing - we'll have facepainters and a bubbleologist for them to enjoy.

And there's no need to rush off after the last...we'll be rounding off two fantastic days with an epic after-party featuring live music from the Chip Shop Boys!

The Desert Orchid Chase

Dessie, as he was affectionately known, was laid to rest at Kempton Park on the 27th December 2006 - the same day as the inaugural running of the race which was won by the Alan King trained Voy Por Ustedes.

Emotional scenes were played out in the Kempton Park winner’s enclosure in 2023 after part owner Trevor Jacobs watched Editeur Du Gite successfully defend his Ladbrokes Desert Orchid Handicap Chase crown 12 months on from celebrating victory in the same race from the confines of his hospital bed.
