Newmarket FAQs

Walk-up tickets will be available for racedays which have not already sold out, unless when specified otherwise. Please do check the website of each individual fixture or contact the racecourse directly if you require further information.

Payments made by card only.

However, we do recommend that tickets are purchased in advance. Pre-booked tickets reduce the time taken to enter the racecourse on the day. If you are collecting your tickets on the day please note that the Ticket Collection will be closed by the 3rd Race. 

If you have purchased Grandstand & Paddock or Garden Enclosure tickets  your ticket is designed to be either printed at home on your home printer and brought with you on the day or presented on arrival on your mobile phone from your email confirmation.

You may also opt for your ticket to be sent to you via The Jockey Club app. If you cannot access your ticket please call 0344 579 3010 for assistance.

Please note that Premier Enclosure & Hospitality tickets will be posted out and are not available as e-tickets, as a badge/wristband is required to accompany the ticket. If you purchased the week of the event your tickets will be available for collection on the day. Please note that the Ticket Collection will be closed by the 3rd Race. Please have your order number ready for collection - Premier Enclosure collection will be from our Premier Entrance 2 ticket collection booth and Hospitality are available to collect from our main Premier Entrance – thatched building (for July Course Racing).

Children are very welcome at our racedays and can attend most fixtures free of charge when accompanied by an adult of 18+. Children’s tickets are subject to availability and may be limited at high demand fixtures.

Under 18 tickets can be added to your basket for free when purchasing an adult ticket, except for a limited number of racedays when child tickets must be paid for.

For Newmarket Nights

As Newmarket Nights are our Friday evening racing plus music events with the artist taking to the stage at any time from 8pm, our recommendation is that Newmarket Nights are not suitable for children under 18.

Whilst we recommend that these events are not suitable for children under 18, if you do wish to bring them as part of your party, at your discretion, they can attend as long as they possess a valid full price ticket to gain entry and there is a responsible adult of 18+ and above to every two children 17 and under.

We take every precaution to try and ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time at all of our events. If you do decide to bring a child under 18, we would suggest against taking them into the most densely crowded areas, which includes the large area in front of the stage.

Newmarket Racecourses have a range of family-friendly events throughout the summer, including our popular Summer Saturdays' series whereby children under 18 are permitted free (when accompanied by an adult of 18+), this excludes Newmarket Nights.

It is your responsibility to check the suitability of an event for any children in your party regardless of official age restrictions, this includes considering the type of audience the event is likely to attract and whether such an audience is a suitable environment for children in your party. Refunds will not be issued if any aspect of an event, including the behaviour of other audience members, causes offence to you or any children on whose behalf you have purchased tickets.

We do not recommend subjecting babies and young children to loud music. If you purchase tickets for children we recommend they wear hearing protection if you decide to bring them. A concert environment is not suitable for very young children.

If an event is cancelled or a fixture is abandoned our refund policy would apply. Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information.

If you fall ill on a raceday and are able to get home safely we suggest you leave as soon as possible. If you need assistance please alert one of our racecourse team members who can contact qualified first aiders to help you.

RCA-issued accreditation, including badge schemes and metal badges, are accepted forms of entry at most fixtures but will be used in conjunction with the PASS system.

Please note there will be a small number of fixtures where RCA-issued badges and accreditation will NOT be accepted and you will be required to apply directly to the racecourse for accreditation. We ask you to continue to check the specific raceday information and contact the racecourse directly if you require further guidance.

RCA metal badges (press/photography) to apply via PASS system the day before. Passcards must be displayed at the point of entry. Non accredited press/photographers will need to apply via the Racecourse.

Spectators are welcome to travel to and from the raceday by any form of transport. Ample free parking is available at all our racecourses. Please see our transport page for options including our Free Shuttle Bus.

Our racecourses continue to operate on a ‘cashless’ basis, including concessions. However, cash may be used when placing bets with all on-course bookmakers. 

Cash may be used when placing bets on the Tote and with all on-course bookmakers.

Please note that due to new laws prohibiting the use of credit to place a bet, all betting facilities on site will be unable to accept Apple Pay.

Yes. The Tote and bookmakers will be present. For betting facilities only, contactless is recommended, but cash payments will still be an option.

No food and drink can be brought into the Hospitality, Premier, Champions Lawn and/or Grandstand and Paddock Enclosures.

Picnics are very popular with many of our racegoers and can be consumed in our Garden Enclosure or car park only.

Please note that our Garden Enclosure is not always open (please check our website in advance). During the summer and in particular our Newmarket Nights and Summer Saturday Live events, the Garden Enclosure sells out and access will ONLY be given to customers who have pre-purchased Garden Enclosure tickets on sell-out fixtures.

Access to the Garden Enclosure with an Annual Badge will not be possible during sell-out events. During these sell-outs and closures, picnics can only be consumed in our car parks.

Please note that food and drink cannot be taken into the Premier or Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures (including Century Stand & Champions Lawn) and only food and drink purchased from our racecourse vendors can be consumed on site. However, please note that NO food and drink can be taken into the Premier Enclosure trackside area during racing.

Alcohol can only be brought into the Garden Enclosure with a substantial picnic and it is limited to one bottle of wine or champagne per person or 4 cans of beer, cider or pre-mixed aperitif per person. Please note that beer/cider must be in cans. Unfortunately, spirits, fortified wines and Pimm’s (or similar) will not be allowed on course.

In the event you cannot attend the raceday your ticket may be transferred to another person, as long as you don’t gain financially from the transfer.

To guarantee availability, it is essential that you telephone us on the same day you make your ticket purchase if you wish to request a personal assistant ticket. We are unable to offer this on the raceday.

We offer complimentary admission to one accompanying personal assistant in circumstances where a person with a disability would otherwise be at a substantial disadvantage without the personal assistant.

The racecourse is made up of three enclosures during racing; Premier, Grandstand & Paddock and the Garden Enclosure.

Premier Enclosure

This enclosure offers the best views of the racing as the finishing post is within this enclosure as well as access to the Parade Ring, Pre Parade Ring and Winners’ Enclosure too. There are a number of bars and restaurants in the Premier Enclosure, including the popular Moët & Chandon champagne bar at the July Course. Please note that during racing the track side viewing area is an alcohol free zone. Premier Enclosure customers also have access to the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure for a further range of facilities and amenities. No access will be granted to our Owners & Trainers, Hospitality, or Annual Badge Holder facilities. Customers with this ticket cannot gain access into the Garden Enclosure should the enclosure be sold out.

Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure

This enclosure offers a fair view of the racing with access to the Parade Ring, Pre Parade Ring and Winners’ Enclosure too and does not have any restrictions on the areas that drinks can be consumed. No access will be granted to our Owners & Trainers, Hospitality, or Annual Badge Holder facilities. Customers with this ticket cannot gain access into the Garden Enclosure should the enclosure be sold out.

Garden Enclosure

This enclosure has restricted race viewing as it is positioned between the one and two furlong pole and has no access to the Parade Ring, Pre Parade Ring or Winners’ Enclosure. Most of the racing can be seen on a large screen only. Customers with Garden Enclosure tickets cannot gain access into the Premier or Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures. 

Amended 6th June 2023 - all under 18s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18+

• All under 18s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18+
• Young person’s 17 and under are admitted free of charge to all enclosures on all racedays excluding our Newmarket Nights and Summer Saturday Live events
• Please apply for anyone in your group aged 17 and under at the time of booking your tickets. These are free of charge but must be booked in advance.
• All tickets will be scanned on entry and proof of age may be required for the holder of a child ticket
• Anyone aged 17 and under must to be supervised by an accompanying adult aged 18+
• One adult of 18+ can supervise a maximum of 3 children 17 and under
• Under 18’s will not be permitted to purchase alcohol or place a bet. Anyone found doing so may be ejected from the racecourse
• ICE (In Case of Emergency) wristbands are available for young persons on request for all Newmarket race meetings. Parents’ contact details can be written on the wristbands in case of separation.

Both the Rowley Mile and the July Course have disabled access, dedicated raised platforms to view the racing, car parking, and toilets (RADAR keys are in operation) in all enclosures.

Premier Enclosure, ANNUAL BADGE HOLDER FACILITIES, CHAMPIONS LAWN AND HOSPITALITY

Racegoers are encouraged to dress smartly in the Premier Enclosure. Most would wear smart trousers, a shirt and formal shoes or a dress or trouser suit with a hat or fascinator, but these are not compulsory. We understand being dressed smartly means different things to different people but if helpful, our guidance is to treat a day at the races as similar to a wedding. Fancy dress and sports shirts are not permitted.

Please note the dress code applies to children aged 16 and above.

Grandstand & Paddock / Garden Enclosure

In the Grandstand & Paddock and Garden Enclosure people tend to dress in a more relaxed way. Fancy dress is permitted but must be in good taste so as not to cause offence.

Newmarket Nights/Summer Saturday Live

The above dress codes apply for Newmarket Nights and Summer Saturday Live at the July Course however we do recommend comfortable shoes. During inclement weather forecasts, wellies and umbrellas are permitted however we do ask that you refrain from using umbrellas during the concert which restricts other customers viewing.

GENERAL GUIDANCE

We reserve the right to refuse entry to any enclosure to anyone who is dressed inappropriately.

In the event of one or all or your party being refused admission, no refund will be offered.

The event is sold as an outdoor standing event with limited cover. Some of our bar areas have a small amount of shelter but most areas are open to the elements. We therefore advise that you dress appropriately for the weather but in accordance with the dress code at Newmarket Racecourses.

During inclement weather, boots and umbrellas are permitted during racing.

Yes, you can upgrade your ticket (subject to availability). At the Rowley Mile, tickets can be upgraded at Customer Relations Desk or at the Information Point near to the Grandstand & Paddock entrance. At the July Course, there is an upgrade point next to the Course Office. Garden Enclosure ticket upgrades can be purchased from the upgrade point located between the transfer gate from the Garden Enclosure to the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure on the July Course. On the Rowley Mile, Garden Enclosure tickets can be upgraded at the Garden Enclosure turnstiles.

Bars and restaurants are open up to 1 hour after racing has finished, some bars and restaurants close depending on the popularity of a race meeting.

We hold concerts after racing on Newmarket Nights and Summer Saturday’s Live, all artists are scheduled to be on stage 20 minutes after the last race and perform for up to 90 minutes.

During feature Festivals, we host Après Racing, Newmarket's official after party. Après Racing starts approximately 15 minutes after the last race and live entertainment will be provided for approximately 90 minutes.

We highly recommend using one of our two bus services to get to the course.

The free shuttle bus operates from Newmarket High Street (outside Hughes Electrical) and Newmarket Train Station to the Rowley Mile and July Course on all racedays. The service starts two hours before the first race and resumes immediately after the last race, running continuously until the venue is clear. No booking is required for this service.

We offer a Outrider bus service from Cambridge and Royston train station, as well as from Bury St Edmunds bus station and Ely town centre.

A range of food and beverage options is offered around the racecourse. If you would like to bring a picnic you can do so in the Garden Enclosure or the car parks. Please note that NO food and drink can be taken into the Premier Enclosure trackside during racing.

Alcohol can only be brought into the Garden Enclosure with a substantial picnic and it is limited to one bottle of wine or champagne per person or 4 cans of beer, cider or pre-mixed aperitif. Unfortunately, spirits, fortified wines and Pimm’s (or similar) will not be allowed on course. You are not allowed to bring food or drink into the Premier or Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures.

Please note bag and physical searches will be in operation. Dogs may be in operation at the entrances for enhanced security searches.

Items that are not permitted into the Premier or Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures:

• We ask that you do not bring unnecessary bags or luggage into the racecourse. Bags larger than 40cm x 35cm x 19cm will not be allowed into the venue
• No food or drink is to be brought into the Premier, or Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures, including celebration cakes or alcohol for presents of your guests
• Knives, corkscrews or sharp objects
• Weapons, ‘hoax’ items or pyrotechnics including laser devices.
• Rope
• Megaphones/Sound Systems or air horns
• Large flags/banners/Selfie Sticks
• Unidentifiable canisters e.g. no deodorant, smoke canisters or nitrous oxide
• Helium Balloons
• Alcohol
• Picnics / BBQs – except food for children/infants under five
• Furniture, gazebos, Fishing Umbrellas
• No glass or ceramic bottles, dishes or glassware
• Professional Filming Equipment unless accredited. Professional looking cameras must be declared on entry (defined as an SLR camera)
• Offensive Clothing
• Illegal substances including drugs
• Marketing or promotional material unless authorised by the racecourse in advance

In the Garden Enclosure the above is not permitted with the exception of:

• Alcohol. This must with accompanied by a substantial picnic and limited to four cans beer/cider/pre mixed aperitif per person or one bottle of wine/champagne per person. No spirits, fortified wines and Pimm’s (or similar) are not allowed on course. All bottles/cartons must be sealed on entry to the premises. Unsealed bottles will not be allowed.
• Picnics (no knives, corkscrews, glass or ceramic bottles/dishes and glassware)
• Outdoor furniture, gazebos (max. size 3m x 6m) or Fishing Umbrellas. The Racecourse reserves the right to restrict access for gazebos/Fishing Umbrellas if they pose a safety threat.

Please note: alcohol, picnics and garden furniture/gazebos are not permitted into the Grandstand & Paddock or the Premier Enclosure. If you have a Garden Enclosure ticket then you are more than welcome to bring your own gazebo and fold up chairs. Once the last race has finished we do ask you to return your items to your car before entering the other enclosures to watch the music.

Newmarket Racecourses rarely suffers abandonments but Jockey Club Racecourses’ policy for a standard raceday is to give a full refund if the meeting is abandoned before the completion of the first race, a 50 per cent refund if the meeting is abandoned before the completion of the third or feature race, whichever is later. There are cash machines available on course however, please note that all food/drink concessions & if paying for entrance on the gate will accept cashless payments only. On course bookmakers will take cash.

At the Rowley Mile luggage can be left at the Information Point and at the July Course it may be left at our Luggage Drop Off Point located in the Blue car park, outside Premier Entrance 2.

All lost property may be handed in or collected from the information points on the Rowley Mile or at the course office at the July Course.

Tickets can be purchased from our official entrances except during sell-out events. We strongly advise that tickets are purchased in advance especially for our popular events, including Newmarket Nights, the QIPCO Guineas Festival and the July Festival as these often sell out due to popularity. Early bird discounts are in place to ensure that you receive the best possible price when booking in advance. Discounts end midnight the day before racing, subject to availability. 

Regrettably, no dogs are allowed, other than Assistance Dogs, within the enclosures. 

We do not allow dogs to be left in vehicles in our car parks.

We have many hospitality packages at Newmarket Racecourses and can be purchased via our website or by calling the hospitality team on 01638 675 300.

Tours of the historic gallops in Newmarket are operated by Discover Newmarket.

In the interests of providing the best possible ground for the horses, the only people allowed to walk the course on racedays or in the build up to race meetings are the owners, trainers and jockeys of horses running at the meeting.

If you are likely to have a bet it is advisable to have cash. Most bookmakers take a minimum bet of £5, but this is clearly displayed on their boards. The Tote will take bets from £2. William Hill betting shops are located on both courses and will accept card payments.

A racecard is a good investment, with a detailed guide to everything that is going on each day plus features and tips. These cost £3.50 on the day or £3.00 in advance. If you would like to do some homework beforehand, race details and tips are in the sports pages of national newspapers, or online at www.racingpost.com, www.sportinglife.com or via our own website.

First Aid staff will be on duty at every meeting.

At the Rowley Mile, the First Aid room can be found next to the Premier Entrance.

At the July Course, it is located by the Course Office, in the public medical room.

As is standard practice across sports and leisure venues, racecourses seek to protect their image rights in their terms and conditions of entry. These regulations are in place to ensure that any commercial income streams generated, in this case via photography, are protected and available to be reinvested into racing. Whilst racecourses do not wish to dissuade customers from taking pictures of their day out, it is important that this remains on a personal level and not for commercial purpose.

If you are wishing to use a “professional” camera (a camera with a substantial detachable lens) on course, please visit the Free Pass Office on arrival to sign a declaration that you will not sell or use images for publicity or financial gain and to obtain a pass. Anyone found in breach of our T&Cs will be removed from the site. If you are an accredited member of the media, permission must be sought through the Press Office before arrival and official media accreditation will be provided.

Compact digital cameras and mobile phones are not classed as “professional” equipment.

Tickets purchased within 7 days of a raceday are automatically available for collection.

At the Rowley Mile ticket collection for all enclosures is located next to the Grandstand & Paddock turnstile entrance. Hospitality ticket collection is located at Premier Entrance 1.

At the July Course ticket collection for Premier and Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures is located at Premier Entrance 2, with hospitality tickets being available for collection at Premier Entrance 1. Garden Enclosure tickets can be collected from the Garden Enclosure turnstile entrance.

Print at home tickets can be downloaded as a pdf and scanned via your mobile phone to gain admission.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Cracked screens can prevent the ticket scanners from reading the mobile ticket. We suggest that you access your tickets using a friend’s phone, or print your ticket at home.

Your eTickets are attached as a PDF to the booking confirmation email. If you prefer to use paper, simply print the PDF.

When processing your booking you will choose the delivery method of your tickets. If mobile tickets are available for your booking, mobile/print at home will appear as a delivery option for you to select.
