HISTORY IN THE MAKING

Taking place on Saturday 8 February 2025, The Kingmaker Novice Chase Day is one of the highlights of the Jump season at Warwick Racecourse.

Not only is it a fantastic fixture in its own right, but it's also targeted by many top-quality horses as they attempt to secure a place in history at the Cheltenham Festival and the Randox Grand National at Aintree.

The Kingmaker Chase Day is renowned for creating winners, and a testament to the quality of the race is the success of the 2022 Winner Edwardstone who went on to win the 2022 Sporting Life Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices' Chase at Cheltenham.

THE MAKING OF THE KINGMAKER

The Grade 2 Kingmaker Novice Chase is the feature race and ran over two miles.

The race was first competed for in 1991 for horses aged five and older. Back in 1991, it was run in May over a distance of 2m 4½f, then moved to February from 1996. Since 1996, it's run over a distance of about 1m 7f 199yds with 12 fences jumped.

Why is it called the Kingmaker? The race is named after the 16th Earl of Warwick, who was known as the Kingmaker during the War of the Roses.
